Old & New Bible Reading Plan

When we plug into God and read His word daily, we are filled with inspiration and creativity because He is the Creator of everything. Reading the Bible is easier than you may think. I know I can spend at least twenty minutes a day mindlessly scrolling socials and watching tv shows. Years ago, I decided to dedicate twenty minutes of my day to spend reading and trying to understand the Bible. It was not easy at first.

The first time I sat down to read the Bible, twenty minutes felt like twenty years. I couldn’t pronounce any of the names in the Bible nor did I know where any of the locations were at on a map. As I continued to read each day, God met with me and guided me. He slowly captured my heart. Little by little my faith grew as my commitment and devotion to God deepened.

The twenty minutes that once felt like twenty years now felt like twenty days, but I still read diligently. As time went on, the twenty minutes begin to only feel like twenty hours. One day twenty minutes wasn’t long enough! I found myself reading more than the twenty minutes and I began praying and talking to God as my friend.

I was in love! God had captured my heart, guided and cared for me in a way like none other. This very same God can’t wait to meet with you too! Schedule the time—even if you’re already stretched thin. Pull tighter and fit God in. I promise you won’t regret it. The Bible says in Hebrews 4:12, “The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” When we read, we allow the Word of God to open up our hardened hearts, heal it, and fill it with indescribable joy.

While reading God blesses us. In Numbers 6:24-26, Moses describes all the ways the Lord blesses us when we meet with Him, “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.” This Bible reading plan combines daily readings from both the Old Testament and the New Testament.
